Pop Star wrangles with Porn Star

Mariah Carey has initiated a trademark dispute with the American porno star Mary Carey. The singer wants to prevent the sex actress from protecting her name as a trademark. She fears that it could produce confusion among her fans.

Mary Carey, who is really called Mary Cook, submitted her trademark application in October of last year, at the American Patent and Trademark Office. Mariah Carey’s lawyers now aim to get the porno star to withdraw her submission. “Mary Carey and Mariah Carey share the same surname and their forenames are very similar”, stated the singer’s lawyer Robert Becker to Reuters. Danger of confusion springs primarily from the fact that Mary Carey wants to protect her name for audio and video recordings. The sex actress should merely retain the right to use her name for “Adult Entertainment’ and at no time to appear as a singer, he is demanding.

Mary Carey is certainly not in a hurry to let herself be pressured by the successful singer “I am ready to fight Mariah in this matter”, she said to the news agency Reuters. The porno star’s lawyer is not intimidated either. He doubts the validity of the argument that fans could be confused.
